(September 16, 2019, San Diego, CA) Local alternative rock station 91X announced today a cumulative donation of $16,359 to the San Diego County Office of Education, raised from the station’s “Inspired By Music,” concert series.

The program stems from a partnership started in 2018 between 91X, Belly Up Entertainment and the SDCOOE. The core method of fundraising comes from a commitment of $1.00 of every ticket sold to “Inspired By Music” concerts held at the Music Box in downtown San Diego.

Local craft brewer Green Flash Brewing Company joined the program this year, and pledged to match the $1.00 per ticket donation for all 2019 IBM shows, as well as additional funds from events at their Mira Mesa facility. As word of the program got out, artists including Angels & Airwaves and Local Natives committed additional dollars from ticket sales to their recent concerts to the IBM Grant Fund.

With money now in place, plans are in motion to allow San Diego County public school teachers to apply for one of four grants: Music Technology, Teacher Professional Development, Field Trips to Musical Events, Media facilities or Music Museums, and Innovative. The goal is to begin grant dispersals starting in January.

“To say we’re thrilled is an understatement,” said 91X Program Director Garett Michaels. “This wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of Green Flash Brewing Company and their matching donation, collaborative support from the team at The Belly Up and Music Box, the artists and bands who have stepped up to perform, and, of course, all the San Diego music fans for coming out to the shows and supporting a great cause.”

“Music is a powerful tool to help students become innovative, creative, and critical thinkers. Inspired By Music grants will help teachers of all subjects have access to much-needed funds to use music to teach children,” said Music Watson, chief of staff for the San Diego County Office of Education. “We’re thankful to 91X, the Music Box, Belly Up Entertainment, and Green Flash Brewing Company for supporting San Diego County’s 22,000 teachers and 500,000 students.”

91X also today announced the final three I.B.M. concerts at the Music Box to finish the year; L.A. rockers Badflower on October 14, Meg Myers on November 20, and the Shelters on December 11. Tickets on sale now.
