Congratulations Derek,

Here is his post from Facebook:

CAREER NEWS! New job, favorite city. After four years in Arizona, I’m beyond excited to be heading back to San Diego!! I’ve accepted an anchor/reporter role with 10News, the ABC affiliate. I have long admired the quality journalism 10News produces. I worked closely with them during my four years at San Diego 6 and I’m thrilled to be part of this exceptional team! In my new role, I’ll be reporting daily and anchoring in the Live Center, providing breaking news updates during the early evening M-F newscasts. I grew up in SoCal, my family lives here, and I feel so privileged to be back in the place my heart never left.

To my friends in Arizona, it was such a pleasure working with you. I learned SO MUCH from Arizona’s Family. I got to do the most exciting and challenging reporting of my career — whether it was in clouds of tear gas, walls of dust, banks of snow or mountains of documents. Many thanks to my many talented colleagues who constantly inspired me, and the newsroom leaders who kept pushing me; in particular Jamie Ioos, Sybil Hoffman, Kathy Clark and former AZFammers like Dan Wilson, Bonnie Loftus and Leona Clark. Arizona’s Family means so much to me, one goodbye just wasn’t enough.
See you on the news soon 📺 I start next month!
