Kevin 'Slow Jammin' James Gets His Day

By Joe Nelson

Kevin 'Slow Jammin' James, most recently from Magic 92.5, took a trip to D.C., I was curious about the reason, so I reached out to him. The following is his words describing his special trip.

Here’s my story. I have dedicated my whole 40 years in radio to make the listeners happy with a specialty brand of music called The Slow Jam. The Original Slow Jam incorporates many genres of music to include R&B, Pop, Jazz, Rock, Blues and even Country. It’s a show of blending that hopefully is a seamless travel through time and conjuring up memories. This along with a strong presence of volunteering in the community (D.C., LA, San Diego) has kept me and the format relevant.

This past weekend I was honored by a group called The Slow Jam KSJJCREW in Washington, D.C. This was an honor that is beyond comprehension. D.C. proclaimed November 9,2018 Kevin James Day. My airfare from LA was paid for along with my Hotel stay at The Hilton Garden Hotel. These unbelievable individuals also got Veterans to donate reward points and money to facilitate this trip. Perfect.

It was Veterans Day Weekend. These listeners /friends listened to me since the early 80’s and only a few years back were they able to be reunited with the forgotten music via Slow Jam Podcasts and then Snoop Dogg’s Cadillacc Music on Dash Radio.

One little caveat to this adventure. 90% of the people had never met before. I know radio will never be like it was but I got to bask in the beauty of what once was. Spectacular!

Thank you Joe Nelson for your invigorating efforts to keep all abreast of what happens in San Diego Radio.
