Hilary Named APD at 91X

HILARY UPPED TO APD OF 91X


(San Diego, CA) Local iconic alternative rock station 91X (XETRA 91.1 FM) announced that Hilary Doneux, current Music Director and long-time on-air DJ on 91X, has been named Assistant Program Director of the station.

Hilary will continue her role as 91X Music Director and midday host from 10:00AM to 3:00PM.
 
The move marks a new milestone in Hilary’s radio career, rooted in Southern California since her start in college radio at UC Irvine in 1992.  After work at the legendary KNAC Los Angeles and 92X in Denver, Hilary has been a mainstay of San Diego radio for over 20 years.

“To say I’m excited is an understatement! 91X is my radio home and I feel ridiculously lucky that I get to continue to grow with such an incredible team,” said Hilary. “I’m so grateful to Garett Michaels for having faith in me and sharing his knowledge (and snacks), and to (VP/GM) Gregg Wolfson, for this opportunity!”

Buchmann, Moran Upped In San Diego



• Last week iHeartMedia Classic Rock KGB-FM/San Diego announced the return of the DSC morning show. Concurrent with their arrival, Bob Buchmann and Coe Lewis shifted from mornings to afternoon drive.



Today, KGB announced several other programming moves — Bob Buchmann has been elevated to Operations Manager and Music Director for KGB. He reports to longtime PD Shauna Moran, who also assumes the enhanced title of Director of Rock Programming for San Diego, overseeing KGB and Active Rock sibling KIOZ (Rock 105.3).

This move gives Mr. Buchmann the opportunity to exercise his programming prowess once again — after all, he was PD of Cumulus Media’s KLOS/Los Angeles before joining KGB to do mornings in June 2012. Buchmann’s previous programming history includes nine years at Clear Channel Classic Rock WAXQ (Q104.3)/New York and Long Island’s iconic WBAB back in the day. Ms. Moran has been with the cluster for over 22 years, the last 18 as PD of KGB and Rock 105.3.

Brett Winterble Renews with KFMB-AM

San Diego, Calif. – August 3, 2018 – iHeartMedia San Diego’s KGB-FM, San Diego’s Classic Rock, announced today the return of the DSC show to the morning drive, effective Monday, August 6, 2018. The new DSC will include show members Dave Rickards, Cookie “Chainsaw” Randolph, Chris Boyer, Nina “Ruth 66” Reeba, Emily Maguire and Sarah Beebe, and will broadcast weekdays from 6 – 10 a.m. 


DSC combines news with a healthy dose of humor to create San Diego’s most dependably hilarious morning show. The Ronnie & Bo Show

Bo Woods, son of the iconic Jack Woods of Charlie and Harrigan, reached out to me and would like to share his venture with his partner Ronnie Merrell. On Sunday, Bo and I talked about their Podcast which is now available on iTunes. and many other platforms.



The Ronnie & Bo Show is a 5-day a week podcast. Affectionately called, "the best-worst podcast you've ever heard". Bo grew up in San Diego the son of Jack Woods a.k.a. "Charlie" of San Diego's legendary morning team show Charlie & Harrigan. Bo said, "Well, I followed in my father's steps when I decided to get into radio. I worked on-air at Y-95, Z-90 and KCBQ-FM, before making it to Dallas and eventually K-EARTH 101, Los Angeles. But now I truly know the feeling of having an on-air partner. Ronnie Merrell is the funniest guy I know". 

Ronnie Merrell earned money in college writing jokes for Jay Leno's Tonight Show Monologues. Merrell added, "It's a perfect combo, Bo knows the technical side of things and I excel in the social media arena. Plus, Bo has enough hair on his face to go around for the both of us". 

The podcast episodes are about 20 minutes in length, available on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play and all other podcasts providers. Said Bo, "We are keeping it family-friendly and hope that if we can make each other laugh then hopefully listeners will enjoy the show".

Steve Breen Takes Home an Emmy

   SanDiegoRadio.org would like to send out a huge congratulations to the San Diego Union-Tribune's Editorial Cartoonist Steve Breen.


   Steve Breen, with the newspaper since 2001, earned an Emmy this year for his work on Street Art: Portraits of San Diego's homeless. The feature consists of interviews with local homeless people accompanied with his trademark illustrations. Breen is also a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner for his previous work.

DSC Part II

This past Friday, the 13th, Shelly Dunn of The DSC announced her retirement. Congratulations, Shelly on nearly 30 years of waking San Diego up and making us laugh!

By the time I got off work, the whole world knew about it so I was not in a big hurry to publish.

Since then I have reached out to my contact with the show again and learned that even though Shelly will be moving on at Month's end, the future of the show is not yet known. No new contract has been signed and there has been word that Entercom has interest in bringing in the morning team.

Will they move to Entercom? Will they stay at KFM-BFM? With owner Tegna notorious for not having much interest in the radio side, this could get very interesting.

SAN DIEGO, CA – (July 16, 2018) – Telemundo 20 San Diego / KUAN today announced the launch of a new consumer investigative unit – Telemundo 20 Responde – that will answer inquiries from local consumers who fear they may have been wronged in any way.
