'Little' Tommy Hired on at Entercom

By Joe Nelson

Was that Little Tommy Sablan at a KSON John and Tammy event Thursday morning?

SanDiegoRadio has noticed Tommy has been promoting KSON's Human Peace Sign on his personal social media pages lately.

SDRadio did some investigative work and found out that Tommy was just hired by Entercom on Wednesday October 11th.

Was his hiring for his experience with human flags? Was he hired solo without his Showgram team?

With the CBS merger in play with Entercom perhaps Tommy simply got his foot in the door precisely at the right time.

SDRadio congratulates Tommy, the only producer in the National Radio Hall of Fame and now the newest employee with Entercom.

Congratulations Tommy!

Z90's Epic 48 is Back

By Joe Nelson

San Diego, CA – Market leading CHR radio station Z90 announced today the third edition of EPIC 48, a sweepstakes dubbed “the biggest promotion in radio history,” which promises to deliver the most incredible 48-hour experience for one winner and their guest.
Hosted by San Diego’s top-rated morning show, Rick Morton and Morton in the Morning, EPIC 48 is driven by three key rules and one guarantee:

1) Be ready to leave at a moment’s notice.
2) Be ready to go ANYWHERE.
3) Be ready to do ANYTHING.

The guarantee: The most EPIC 48 hours of your life!

Previous winners have enjoyed a myriad of once-in-a-lifetime and money-can’t-buy experiences including flying in private jets, diamond shopping, floor seats and admission to the Chairman’s Club at a Lakers game, being given a $1,000 casino chip by Pitbull, being picked up by a helicopter on the USS Midway, helping critique DJ Mustard’s new album in studio (with him!), being served dinner by a personal chef inside their own private Malibu beach mansion, attending the “Big Game” and hanging out with Lady Gaga after her halftime show.

“Epic 48 has been the absolute biggest promotion in radio –not just in San Diego, but in the world— and I get the jitters knowing we’re doing it all over again,” said Z90 Director of Programming R Dub! “The challenge is always how to make it bigger and better. Challenge accepted.”

Listeners apply to win Epic 48 3.0 at, and listen to Morton in the Morning for additional methods to win.

Z90 (XHTZ-FM) is owned by Local Media San Diego, LLC; a San Diego-based broadcasting company backed by private equity firm, Thoma Bravo, LLC. LMSD also operates Magic 92.5 (XHRM-FM) and 91X (XTRA-FM).

Lee 'Hacksaw' Hamilton is Back on the Radio

By Joe Nelson

In a phone conversation with SanDiegoRadio, Hacksaw tells us he has returned to The Mighty 1090.

Hacksaw was last heard on 1090 three years ago before he left and eventually joined CW6 as their Sports Anchor.

Lee will be on with Scott and BR at 5PM Monday through Friday. Hacksaw will deliver his 'Hacksaw's Headlines', then stay on with the guys and discuss the topics.

In addition to his Headlines, Hacksaw will help with the website as it pertains to videos, podcasts and written content.

Hacksaw also has his own website, it can be found HERE

Lee tells SDR "1090 was always my station, it still is. I'm glad to be back at my station. I had three years on TV, and that proved how strong my brand still is in this market" "Let's recreate some magic"

Thanks for your time, Saw.

An Article Worth Sharing - Entercom-CBS

By Joe Nelson

Sometimes I find articles worth sharing, this is one of those. This from Tom Taylor and his NOW Newsletter:

Kagan counts $123 million in third-quarter station sales – but Entercom controls a bunch more.

In fact, almost half the Kagan-counted $123 million of radio station sales in July-August-September came in the final days of September, from Entercom announcing single-station sales in L.A., San Diego and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to “K-Love” parent Educational Media Foundation. That totaled $57.75 million, which Kagan pencils out to “$3.75 per pop.” (Meaning $3.75 per person under the signals of those stations.) But we know Entercom’s David Field still has about a dozen or more stations to divest from his CBS Radio hookup, including multiple signals in San Francisco, Seattle and Sacramento, plus the really tough nut, Boston. The mystery is what the Justice Department will insist on. Back to the Kagan report – Q3’s second-biggest announced radio deal was the $19.5 million sale of four AMs, 14 FMs and two translators in the Southeast from Alpha Media to Dick Broadcasting. After that, Kagan says “there were ten other radio transactions between $1 million and $7 million, with all other radio deals in the quarter worth less than $1 million.” So without Entercom-EMF and Alpha-Dick Broadcasting, this would’ve been a very sluggish quarter by dollar volume. But dealmakers know the Entercom-CBS Radio spins and/or swaps are somewhere in the blender. (San Francisco-based MVP is working on those.) And Alpha’s Larry Wilson might like to keep raising cash to pay down debt from his 2015 acquisition of Digity. Plus – who knows what surprises are out there? Dealmakers tell this NOW Newsletter they were busy with meetings at last month’s Austin Radio Show.
