To Flip or Not to Flip?
By Joe Nelson
Since 100.7 Jack FM went Christmas, rumors have been running rampant on if they will flip... Country to take on KSON? Classic Rock to battle it out with KGB.
I have been told listeners should tune in to Dave Rickards on 100.7, Saturday at 10:00AM.

I can't see 'country' - every time someone tries country it just splits the 5.0 with KSON - and doesn't really mesh with the DSC either ... and what owner wants/needs another 2.5 format (at best)?
With an LMA agreement with BCA in place, you would have to consider any conflict with their formats/audience targets.
'Classic Rock' - seems to also guarantee another 2.5 split of that audience segment.
I would enjoy seeing an operation create a personality driven station that identifies with their market - over another narrow, tired 'more music' format ... but that is pie-in-the-sky and probably too risky for the bean counters.
Jack (the original Jack) was an interesting concept, but the lack of personality soon wore thin and the tweaks that followed (the DSC 25-54 adjustment) and then this year's CHR 'adjustment' only narrowed the play list and made listening more quickly tedious with each iteration.
Doesn't someone realize a station's 'personality' will pay long term dividends over paying some music list consultant to come up with the perfect narrow playlist that will eventually grow thin after the initial quarter's .2 rating bump ?
Even 'cutting edge' rock becomes narrow and stale.
Let's hope someone tries SOMETHING unique and enjoyable at KFMB - over a predictable, repeatable song-song-format explanation and station ID- song-song-format-explanation station ID format.
As for Coe, I've never gotten her appeal. Jim McGuiness either. I just have never heard anything special in either of them. But, in recent years, when you only get to talk on the radio for 15 seconds at a time, it's tough to make much of an impact or connection.
Sadly, I think that 100.7 will be classic rock ::sigh:: as long as there is a VARIETY, I suppose it won't be so bad. I like deep tracks... the Van Halen day on 100.7 was good. I heard a lot of VH songs I'd never heard before and really liked (just a casual fan, obviously). Are you sensing a theme with me?
Cheers,
Lauren
