100.7 JACK-FM DEBUTS ‘JACK FROST’ CHRISTMAS MUSIC FOR SAN DIEGO

San Diego, CA – Effective today at 10:00 AM, 100.7 JACK-FM (KFMB-FM) will change to JACK FROST and air Christmas music for the holiday season.

The music will kick off with "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree," By Gary Hoey, and all music on the station will consist of a deep library of modern and classic Christmas songs. The top rated “Dave, Shelly, and Chainsaw,” program which airs weekdays 6:00 to 10:00 AM will remain unchanged.

“With San Diego finally experiencing winter weather, and more time is spent with family and thinking of our loved ones, I’m excited for the Christmas music on JACK FROST to complement the holiday spirit we all feel,” said Joe Lindsay, Director of Programming. KFMB Stations include radio stations 100.7 JACK FROST FM, AM 760 KFMB and television station CBS 8. Midwest Television, Inc., licensee of these locally owned and operated stations, also operates as a member of SD Local, a joint operating arrangement with Local Media San Diego, LLC. LMSD operates radio stations Magic 92.5 (XHRM-FM), Z90 (XHTZ-FM), and 91X (XTRA-FM).

November 17th is a bit too early to start playing Christmas music in the opinion of this listener.

Unfortunately, My employer loves this. I think it's wayyyyyyyyyy too early.

I agree, it's a little early for Christmas music, but I think it's a setup for a format change once the holiday season is over.....have you seen their overall ratings lately?

I like Christmas music as much as the next person, but in moderation. I'm ready to change stations.

Jack-FM is right on! Kudos. Since radio was deregulated (by flaming idiots!) and rather quickly became a shadow of its former self... what the heck...why not play Xmas music starting when the "big box" stores put out their Xmas stuff? I mean these stores practically do "touch and goes" for Halloween and Thanksgiving and don't "go past go" to decorate for Xmas. Ok...ok...so they know where the bucks are. But a guy writing in the New York Times (Matt Killingsworth - Robert Wood Johnson Health and Society Scholar and the creator of Track Your Happiness.org)collected data from 20,000 folks and found that people are actually happier than usual on holidays...Christmas being the happiest day, with Thanksgiving and New Year's Day not far behind. He explains: "There are several reasons, but one of the main reasons is that we spend more time interacting with our friends and family on these holidays and, as it turns out, doing so is a robustly positive predictor of our happiness." Plus IMHO...from one D.J. who was "on air" in San Diego when only AM was in the cars and "radio was king," as time goes on...Xmas tunes may stimulate your memory cells to take you back to some pretty special moments (and people) and, these days, couldn't we all use a bit more of those heart-warming snapshots of time and space? Just sayin'. Oh, and quoting Dickens' Tiny Tim: "God Bless us, everyone."

Another year, another format change for JackFM. Too many DSC listeners, myself included, are changing the station after 10AM. They need to keep the DSC listeners who are turning off Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, etc.

Bring back Classic Rock. Sell it to San Diego. KGB's ratings are way up since no one else is keeping against them in the format.

There's a good reason why there's only one classic rock station: only one station per market needs to play that music. No offense, it IS classic... but how many times do you want to hear the same old songs over and over? Just because DSC killed it on KGB with that format for so long, doesnt necessarily mean that's the best music for their listeners. Much respect to you, Anonymous. IMHO, another classic rocker won't make it.

Ridiculous. Last thing I want to listen to on the commute home is Christmas music before Thanksgiving. Bye bye, Jack.

Way to early for Christmas music! BTW...what happened to JohnJay & Rich?

Seems that KYXY has also gone all Christmas as well. Did Jack force their hand to change earlier than they wanted to? Also, they didn't feel the need to send out a press release to announce something that happens every year.

I'm enjoying reading all of the bellyaching about how it's "way too early" for Xmas music. It's not May! Christmas trees have been in Target since September. Evidently, Jack FM sees some benefit in flipping to Christmas now. It seems like it really caught KYXY off guard. Maybe it will push KYXY to improve their Xmas presentation which is super boring. The real question is: What will emerge on 100.7 after Christmas???

I love Jack FM, but the Xmas music overshadoweding and nullify Thanksgiving, has been far to anoying. Had to switch to a different radio station.

After two days of listening to Christmas music on my afternoon commute, I switched stations. Still tune into the DSC in the morning, but I'm done with the evening until you bring back John Jay and Rich
