Jon St John Reaches 40 Year Mark and Gets Roasted

By Joe Nelson
Reaching a milestone of 40 years in the same industry is seemingly rare these days. Heck, I am almost at 20 and it seems like an eternity.

Jon St John has just met that mark. 40 years in the voice acting industry. Of course with his time on radio, he has been immortalized as the voice of the Video Game character Duke Nukem, along with a litany of other voices through the years.

While appearing at SGC in Frisco, Tx, Jon was treated to a roast in his honor.

Before you watch this roast, I must warn you, there may be more than one expletive spoken.

Congratulations Jon!
Proud to be your friend.

Frankie V Makes a Wicked Sweet Move to Boston

By Joe Nelson

Source: AllAccess

iHEARTMEDIA Top 40/Rhythmic WJMN (JAM'N 94.5)/BOSTON has announced the debut of "THE JAM’N MORNING SHOW WITH FRANKIE & ASHLEE," beginning MONDAY, JULY 27th. FRANKIE VINCI, from iHEARTMEDIA Top 40/MAINSTREAM KHTS (CHANNEL 93.3)/SAN DIEGO, will now join WJMN vet ASHLEE FELDMAN to host mornings.

FRANKIE has been hosting mornings on CHANNEL 93.3 since 2010. He will continue to host mornings with GEENA until further notice. FRANKIE's experience on-air includes roles at KIIS/LOS ANGELES, WKSS/HARTFORD and at sister station WXKS (KISS 108)/BOSTON. FRANKIE was born in BOSTON, raised in FRAMINGHAM, MA and is very active within the community, supporting a number of charities including AFTER SCHOOL ALL STARS, BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF AMERICA, ST. BALDRICKS and RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE.

iHEARTMEDIA BOSTON SVP/Programming DYLAN SPRAGUE commented, "FRANKIE is one of our rising stars in iHEARTMEDIA, and we are thrilled to be able to bring him back to BOSTON and JAM’N 94.5. FRANKIE’s open, honest and vulnerable personality creates unique conversations that made him a success in SAN DIEGO. Being a BOSTON kid and JAM’N fan growing up, I know FRANKIE understands this city, our music and the lifestyle of the JAM’N listener. Pair that with ASHLEE FELDMAN’s deep connection with the JAM’N audience and you have a show that will be fun, edgy and will give young BOSTON a real voice on the radio."

FRANKIE added, "People may wonder why I'm giving up the perfect weather of SAN DIEGO for the snow, rain and funny BOSTON accents, but BOSTON has been and always will be my home. Growing up I always listened to JAM'N 94.5 and now I am going to host the morning show. Dreams do come true. Thank you to iHEARTMEDIA for allowing me this opportunity to go home."

FRANKIE succeeds RAMIRO, a longtime WJMN personality who has stepped down.

Congratulations Frankie! Best wishes.

Rumors of a Flip

By Joe Nelson

I never just say things for shock value. There is always substantial research done before I post.

So, I have on numerous occasions in the last week heard rumor of a station flip. Possibly even two. I won't reveal what stations I heard about but just know I am monitoring this very closely and my birdies are talking to me. As we say in the biz... Stay Tuned!

KGB's Big Jon to Emcee Concert at The Lakes

By Joe Nelson

This weekend, two of SanDiegoRadio.org's favorite things are coming together into one incredible event.

Saturday, July 18th at 5:00PM, the Santee-Lakeside Rotary Foundation and the Santee Lakes Foundation presents 'Concert at the Lakes' featuring Bella Donna, a tribute to Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks.  Bella Donna's opening act will be Acoustic Blue.

This is an important fundraiser that helps fund programs to provide financial incentives to high school students as they move on to college along with raising funds to help promote the importance of outdoor recreation, conservation and environmental sustainability at Santee Lakes.

This fundraiser will be hosted by 101KGB's very own Big Jon, Bob and Coe's morning show producer and fill-in on air personality.  Here's your chance to come out and support these vital Santee charities and see Big Jon in action on the mic.

Big Jon tells SanDiegoRadio "I'm excited to host Acoustic Blue for the second year in a row, and Bella Donna for the first time" "The Santee Concert by the lakes this year is going to be better than last year! I didn't think it was possible. Bella Donna is an amazing tribute band to BOTH Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks!" "I've heard about Bella Donna and seen a few of their YouTube videos, but I've been told, from a good authority, that they are better in person. It's all for a good cause and a good time!"

KFMB Radio VP/GM Gina Landau announces Retirement

By Joe Nelson

For Immediate Release:

After a 35 year run in San Diego media, Gina Landau has announced her plans to retire from the radio industry and her current position at the KFMB Stations.

Landau spent her entire radio career in America’s Finest City, starting at Lotus Communications (KFSD-FM).  From there she moved to the Wise Communications and then to the legendary KKLQ (Q-106), serving as an AE for seven years.  In 1995 Landau was named LSM of KFMB-FM when it was Star 100.7 (now 100.7 Jack FM) and in 2007, stepped into her current role of V.P./G.M. of the KFMB Radio Stations.

While at KFMB, Landau was always on the move, her influence on the San Diego radio landscape resulted in many memorable promotions such as the now infamous "Whirl till you Hurl” in 1998.  Landau is credited with restoring balance to San Diego radio when she announced the return of the ‘Dave, Shelly, & Chainsaw’ show after a seven month absence from the local airwaves in 2010.  In addition, Landau was instrumental in introducing San Diego to new radio talent including the Armstrong & Getty Show and the Mike Slater Show.  She also took pride in welcoming San Diego’s Radio Mayor, Roger Hedgecock, to KFMB-AM in 2012.

Commenting on her retirement Landau says; “I am forever grateful to have been part of the radio industry at its crazy, vibrant, creative peak.  To have worked beside so many wonderful people who will remain radio family for life, is the icing on the cake.”

Gina’s final day at the KFMB stations will be September 4th 2015.  She can be reached via email at glandau@kfmb.com or ginaradio@roadrunner.com

Entercom Reaches Agreement

Entercom Reaches Agreement with U.S. Department of Justice to Approve Lincoln Financial Media Acquisition

Entercom To Exchange Four Stations in Denver with Bonneville International Corporation for KSWD-FM in Los Angeles
BALA CYNWYD, Pa.--()--Entercom Communications Corp. (“Entercom” or the “Company”) (NYSE: ETM) announced today:
  • An agreement with Bonneville International Corporation (“Bonneville”) to exchange four stations in Denver for KSWD-FM (The Sound) in Los Angeles
  • Time brokerage agreements (“TBA”) that will allow Bonneville and Entercom to operate the exchanged stations immediately upon the closing of the Lincoln Financial Media acquisition (“LFM”)
  • A settlement with the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice (“DOJ”) related to the Company’s previously announced acquisition of LFM
  • An expectation that the closing of the LFM acquisition and commencement of the Bonneville-Entercom TBAs will take place within a few business days
Entercom has entered into an exchange agreement with Bonneville under which Entercom will exchange four stations in Denver for Classic Rock station The Sound in Los Angeles and $5 million in additional consideration. The stations Entercom will exchange with Bonneville are: KOSI-FM, KYGO-FM, KKFN-FM and KEPN-AM. Entercom owns KOSI-FM, while the remaining stations are being acquired through the acquisition of LFM.
Entercom and Bonneville will begin operating the exchanged stations under TBAs once the LFM transaction is completed. Closing of the Bonneville-Entercom exchange is subject to FCC approval and other customary closing conditions. Entercom expects the Bonneville transaction to close by the fourth quarter of this year.
Entercom also announced today that it has reached a settlement with the DOJ regarding the Company’s acquisition of LFM which was announced in December 2014. The DOJ initiated its Hart Scott Rodino review of the acquisition with a focus on the impact of the transaction on concentration in the Denver radio market. As a result of the exchange agreement with Bonneville, the DOJ has agreed to approve the Company’s acquisition of LFM. The Company has received FCC approval for the LFM acquisition and will close the transaction after DOJ terminates the Hart-Scott-Rodino waiting period.
Closing of the LFM acquisition and the commencement of the related Bonneville-Entercom time brokerage agreements are expected to take place within a few business days.
Commenting on the transactions, Entercom President and Chief Executive Officer David J. Field stated: “We are delighted to be moving forward on our long-delayed acquisition of Lincoln Financial Media and adding their terrific brands, markets and people to our organization. We are also very excited to be acquiring The Sound, the fastest growing radio station in Los Angeles, through our station exchange with Bonneville. Adding Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, and San Diego to our footprint will meaningfully enhance our ability to serve our listeners, customers, employees and shareholders. This is a great day for Entercom that will enhance our competitive position and bolster our growth potential well into the future."
The purchase price for the LFM acquisition is $105 million which will be paid with $77.5 million in cash and $27.5 million in newly issued Series A Perpetual Convertible Preferred Stock which will be held by Lincoln Financial Group. Entercom will fund the cash portion of the purchase price using cash on hand and by drawing on a portion of its existing $50 million revolving credit facility.
As a result of the LFM acquisition and the Bonneville exchange, Entercom will enter four new top 20 markets, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Miami and San Diego, and will add the following stations:
