SanDiegoRadio Spotlight - May 2015

By Joe Nelson

May's SanDiegoRadio Spotlight features Lincoln Financial Media's Nick Upton.

What is your current position?

Afternoons on Easy 98.1, 3PM - 6PM weekdays, plus Interactive/Digital Director for the Lincoln Financial Media Stations.  AKA, Web Site/Social Media wrangler.
How are things with you right now? Life, work…..

Can’t complain!  With the new afternoon position, I’ve again been given a chance to start a new chapter, but continue with a company and group of people that I deeply admire and truly enjoy working with.

Do you have anything you’d like to talk about? Such as stories from radio?

In my many years at KSON --14 of those years as Music Director of the station – I’ve had a chance to meet a lot of interesting, talented artists.  Some who became monumental stars, others who were never heard from again.  One of the moments I remember was sitting on Garth Brooks’ tour bus behind the now-defunct Bacchanal club on Clairemont Mesa Blvd.  It was 1990 and Brooks’ was pr…

SanDiegoRadio Exclusive - Local PD Steps Down

By Joe Nelson

Sent on behalf of Bob Bolinger: It is with much sadness that I tell you Charlie Quinn is resigning as Program Director of KyXy to devote more time and attention to his family in Florida. For the past 16 years, Charlie has been our leader in stewarding and evolving the KyXy brand. He has been a terrific strategist, coach and most of all friend. All with tremendous effort, enthusiasm and class.
Charlie asked that I forward the attached personal note he wrote to all of you. We’re planning on giving Charlie a proper send off one evening, details to follow. In the meantime, join me in thanking Charlie for all he has done for us and CBS San Diego.
Moving forward, I am asking Chris Patyk to oversee both KEGY and KyXy, while looking to Mark Blackwell to take on an even greater role in the day to day programming of KyXy.

SanDiegoRadio wishes Charlie all the best in his future and thanks him for his contributions to local radio!
