FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JACK MURPHY TAKES SAN DIEGO MORNINGS TO “THE MAX”
THE NEW MAX MORNING SHOW WITH MURPHY AND KIM
DEBUTS ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 17th
San Diego, CA, October 30, 2014 – Broadcast Company of the Americas is excited to welcome legendary morning personality Jack Murphy to the Brand New 105.7 MAX-FM morning show. Murphy joins San Diego market veteran Kim Morrison for the new “MAX Morning Show with Murphy and Kim,” which will hit the air Monday, November 17th.
Jack Murphy has always been a broadcaster. From the first time he got behind a microphone at age 14, he knew radio was for him. From a 500 watt day timer in his hometown to the morning show at America's most listened to radio station Z-100 in New York. His career has taken him to some of America's great radio stations, including KKLQ (Q106) in San Diego WZGC, WSTR, and WSB-FM in Atlanta, WWSH Philadelphia, KHYI Dallas, WCCO Minneapolis, WROQ Charlotte, and for over 20 years Murphy hosted the Triad’s consistently #1 rated morning show on WKZL Greensboro.
Along the way, Jack founded Murphy's Kids a 501-C Non Profit which has raised over a million dollars for at risk Kids. Murphy's Kids has bought iPads and Service Dogs for Autistic Children, sent low income elementary students on educational field trips, bought food for hungry children, and provided Christmas for children whose parents were sick or had been unemployed for months.
When Jack Murphy accepted the position with BCA Radio, he exclaimed, “It feels like Christmas came a little early this year, I'm excited to join the MAX team! I can't wait to get on air with Kim and Kayla! I hope they are ready! We're going to have some fun in the morning. Now if I could just decide which is first, a fish taco at Rubio’s or carne asada with that green sauce at Roberto's?”
Mike Shepard, BCA Radio’s Programming-Operations Manager shared “I'm thrilled to welcome Jack Murphy as host of the new MAX Morning Show with ‘Murphy and Kim.’ I respect Murphy's talent so much I managed to get him hired out of San Diego back in the 90’s because he was such a fierce competitor. Jack is a true entertainer who develops fans, not just listeners. I know that he and Kim will offer San Diego a fresh, fun, and interactive entertaining morning show. I couldn't be more excited!"
“Great local talent engaging with San Diegans every morning is what continues to drive successful radio.
Murphy and Kim along with your favorite ‘MAX music’ will be a great way to start your day,” adds President and Market Manager, Mike Glickenhaus.
Broadcast Company of the Americas (BCA) operates The Mighty 1090 AM, 105.7 MAX-FM, and ESPN 1700
AM and holds the radio broadcast rights for the San Diego Padres. BCA also participates in Radio San
Diego, a sales partnership with KPRI 102.1 FM.

Last year, Jo Eager held a series of book signings as her story of the horrible rattlesnake bite was published in 'Chicken Soup for the Soul - From Lemons to Lemonade' Story HERE
This is actually her third story in the Soup books.
Chicken Soup for the Soul: Find Your Inner Strength releases TODAY, October 28th. I have a story
published in the book about my son's diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes and a family who visited us
with a "Bag of Hope" from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
November is National Diabetes Month and I will be doing two book signings in November with a portion
of the proceeds from each sale going to JDRF, in addition to the YMCA. This is my third Chick Soup story.

The talk started out getting to know each other, our personal lives and where life finds us both these days.
The conversation moved on to former DSC cast member Elaina Dore Smith, how great it is that she went from fill-in work while Shelly was out, to Florida and now co-hosting 'Nash Nights Live' with Shawn Parr. We are all so proud of Elaina and her great radio success story!
Continued: "Some more great memories would have to be Comic-Con, Sky Show, and The Miramar Follies. It had to be 1990 or 1991, Chainsaw and I were invited to go to Miramar and judge their Squadron Skit. One of the men, much like Iceman, or Maverick from Top Gun, approached me and said I should joke about the Navy men. So I joked around, making heroes out of Marines, and goats out of the Navy. Next thing I knew, they put me on a chair, lifted me up, carried me like a king, but dumped me into the pool. I climbed out, but they threw me in again."
JN: Dave, what gives the DSC their staying power?
JN: Dave, who were your radio icons early on?
JN: What personalities do you admire today?
JN: Are you still having fun?
JN: How do you prepare for a show these days, with having internet and social media?
JN: Dave, how important is chemistry to a morning radio show, especially given the size of crew you have?
JN: Can you describe how you came up with the idea for the infamous shuttle landing hoax? (April 1993)
Click below for the audio clip of the Space Shuttle Landing
JN: Random question, you always talk of watching 'The Old Man Channel". If you could pick any era to live in, maybe just for a little while, what would you choose?
DR: "That's easy, the 40's."
JN: Dave, what is your favorite memory, in life?
DR: "It has to be waiting for my father to come home after work (AM Radio). He never had holidays off. He would come home on his lunch breaks at Christmas, just to open gifts. Then back to work he went"
JN: Do you have any interviews through the years that stand out in your mind?
DR: "Having Alan Shepard in studio. He was the first American in space, he landed on the moon! However we were preparing to have Buzz Aldrin on the air on the 30th anniversary of the moon landing. I had 'Rocket' by Def Leppard all cued up. The last minute of the song, there was a drum solo. We had audio clips of the lunar module flying across the landscape. Apollo 11 was seconds away from aborting. They were 100 feet away from the surface and out of fuel. The set-up was perfect for introducing Buzz.... As soon as the song was over, he says "I wish everyone would stop making such a big deal out of that landing!!'......"

I asked Dave if there was anything else he'd like to share. He was kind enough to offer this "Starting with Chris Carmichael (my predecessor) and now you, Joe... SanDiegoRadio.org is the only place to read about radio. It's the only reliable source to go to."
Thanks Dave, thank you for your time, welcoming me into your home, and sharing these great memories. Love your show!
**Editor's Note** When the DSC Podcasts went to a subscription plan, I received countless emails asking how, why, what and where?? There were some pretty upset people. I am here to again tell you why, like I am, you should be a subscriber for the podcasts. Aside from the technical radio reasoning for the change, the fact that the subscriptions help fund one of the best radio charity events in San Diego, "The 12 Days of Christmas". The DSC Podcast Page

SanDiegoRadio's birdies are talking. Talking of a major shakeup on the AM dial VERY soon.
While I am aware of exactly what will transpire, I don't like to burn people. I will let it take its course and will publish the facts when appropriate.
So as I always say, "stay tuned"........

Earlier today I ran the story announcing Dave Mason returning to BCA - 105.7 MAX FM, that can be found HERE.
I spoke to Dave briefly tonight and he shares his thoughts on returning as Middays and Assistant PD.
" I am thrilled to be rejoining BCA and to work again with the two Mikes (Shepard and Glick)."
"We did great things at K-Earth and I can say it was an honor to be part of that legacy"
"Time to start a new one at MAX"
Thanks Dave, congratulations!
