Pala Pow Wow

By Joe Nelson

The 6th Annual Honoring Traditions Powwow takes place this FridaySaturday and Sunday, August 23-25 on the Pala Reservation.  Rez Radio 91.3 will pre-empt regular programming to carry the event live all three days.  Eight top drum groups from reservations all across North America will be providing the live sound track for the Grand Entry and all dancing competitions.  For the first time, the drum groups will also be competing against each other for prizes to be awarded Sunday.

Everyone is welcome to attend.  There is no charge for admission or parking.  The powwow is east of I-15 and west of Pala Casino off Highway 76.  Just follow the signs.  There’ll be lots of food and native crafts vendors.  If you can’t attend, listen to the drums on Rez Radio.  Our tentative broadcast schedule includes Friday from the first Grand Entry at about 6p until 9p.  Saturday’s coverage begins at noon and continues until dinner break. Sunday, the powwow coverage begins at noon right after Brunch With Bob and Friends and continues until the awards are announced around 5 or 6.  We’ll also be posting photos and movies from the powwow to www.Facebook.com/RezRadio all weekend.
