Nathan Fast - July 2013 Spotlight

By Joe Nelson
The July 2013 SanDiegoRadio Spotlight features Channel 933's 'Night Maniac' Nathan Fast.
Joe Nelson: Nathan, thanks for taking your time for this interview. Please tell me, what is your current title/position?
Nathan Fast: I host weeknights from 7PM to Midnight on Channel 933, San Diego's Hit Music Station, and weekends on 102.7 KIIS-FM in Los Angeles.

JN: What are your favorite parts of the job?
NF: I love everything about my job - from prepping during the day, to keeping myself up-to-date on pop culture and artist news, to brainstorming fun and creative ideas in promotions meetings, to interacting with listeners online, on-air, and out on the streets. I get to put on my headphones and entertain Southern California each and every night. I love it all and am motivated to do a better job each and every day.

JN: Who are your all-time favorite musical artists?
NF: Incubus, Foo Fighters, Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers.

JN: And your current favorite?
NF: Otherwise - (I became friends with singer Adrian and lead guitarist Ryan when I first moved to Las Vegas and I have enjoyed watching them explode onto the rock charts in 2013) and Avicii..

JN: Tell me about your personal side
NF: I grew up on a farm in Ohio and always wanted to be in the NBA. I'm a big believer that you can do anything if you put your mind to it, but realized my dream of being a professional basketball player just wasn't meant to be. I moved to Las Vegas after college to work as a financial analyst for MGM-Mirage. I started working at KLUC-FM on the weekends and then overnights before quitting my corporate job and moving to Boise, Idaho to do nights for KSAS. I moved to San Diego at the beginning of January 2013 to do nights for Channel 933 and have been having a blast!

JN: What are your favorite restaurants?
NF: BASIC, Olive Garden, Cheesecake Factory, In-N-Out

JN: What are your movie interests?
NF: My favorites are The Hangover trilogy, Joe Dirt, and Back to the Future

JN: Do you have any hobbies?
NF: I wish I could say working out, but sadly I retired from competitive running after the Boston Marathon a few years ago. I now enjoy trying new restaurants and exploring new parts of San Diego

JN: What are your favorite parts of the city?
NF: I'm still discovering new favorite parts of San Diego on a weekly basis. Del Mar, La Jolla Shores and Coronado Island are at the top of the list right now. I love a good view.

JN: Is there anything else you'd like to share?
NF: I feel fortunate to be surrounded every day by some of the most talented and motivational people I've ever met. My Music Director/Assistant Program Director, Frankie V, has taken me under his wing, showed me around San Diego, and taught me what it means to be a great night jock. My Program Director, Joe Haze, and my Vice President of Programming, John Peake, have both coached me and given me the opportunities to grow as a jock and in one of the coolest markets in the country.

Nathan, thanks a ton for your time!
